Skier Safety in Beaver CreeK - Safety on the slopes
NEW for 2009-2010: All Beaver Creek Instructors will be wearing helmets!

Safety on the slopes is top of mind for families and it’s a top priority at Beaver Creek. The resort was recently awarded its second consecutive Best Overall Safety Award from the National Ski Areas Association and it’s the seventh safety award presented to Beaver Creek. Capturing not only locals through comprehensive in-school education programs with elementary schools,  the Yellow Jacket Safety Team furthered its outreach efforts through the Safety By Numbers campaign which reached guests from domestic and international locales through a variety of mediums. Each season the Safety Team ups the ante and develops new educational programs that meet the needs of current industry trends. Last winter for example, with abundant snowfall and an unstable snow pack in the back country which saw increasing popularity, the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol focused on offering free Back Country and Safety Awareness classes incorporating their veteran Avalanche Rescue Dogs, Blu and Dixie, to demonstrate proper planning and preparation and perform mock rescues.  The visibility of Beaver Creek’s Avalanche Rescue Dogs who can be seen working on the slopes daily, also raises general safety awareness and sparks valuable conversations with kids and adults.

Beaver Creek’s safety ambassadors Harry and Milli will show your kids just how much fun it is to ski and ride safely. This winter, the animated characters are teaming up with the Beaver Creek Children’s Ski and Snowboard School to offer a Harry and Milli Safety Scavenger Hunt. Safety clues will lead kids and their instructors to Harry and Milli’s secret hideaways on the mountain, following a safety talk from Ski Patrol. Other kids’ ski school favorites include Park-ology, an introduction to terrain parks, and the Talons Challenge, a quest to ski or ride 13 of Beaver Creek’s toughest runs in one day.
